Ryan Vogelsong Baseball Cards
Ryan Patrick Vogelsong is a former right-handed Major League Baseball pitcher. Although he had an unconventional path to stardom, Vogelsong enjoyed a resurgent big league career mostly with the San Francisco Giants spanning from 2001-2013. Against all odds, he had an incredible comeback season where he made the Giants’ opening day roster and posted a 2.71 ERA in 73.1 innings pitched as a reliever and starter. Due to his inspiring story and strong performance, Vogelsong was included in both Topps and Bowman baseball card sets in 2011.
The Topps 2011 baseball card #448 features Vogelsong in a Giants uniform on the mound. It highlights his journey back to the major leagues after several years abroad. The back provides statistics from his 2011 season along with a short biography chronicling his perseverance in bouncing between independent ball and overseas leagues before catching on with the Giants.
Vogelsong’s 2011 Bowman baseball card #212 also depicts him as a Giant with stats from that season. The shiny chrome/ refractory card was part of Bowman’s flagship set and helped bring more recognition to Vogelsong’s comeback story among card collectors. 2012 – All-Star Year

He bounced around with brief stints with the Pirates and Phillies organizations from 2015-2016 before retiring after the 2017 season spent with the Rays’ Triple-A affiliate.
While no longer collecting any new mainstream baseball cards past 2015, Vogelsong left a lasting legacy on the hobby.
