Donruss Champion baseball cards were produced from 1981 to 1987 by the Donruss company and were among the most popular and highly sought after baseball card sets of the 1980s. Donruss first entered the baseball card market in 1981 with their “Donruss Diamond Kings” set. It was their 1982 “Donruss Champion” set that really put them on the map. Some of the top rookies featured that year included Fernando Valenzuela, Cal Ripken Jr., and Tony Gwynn. The set also included traded players in their new uniforms for the first time.
