The St. Louis Cardinals released their 2022 regular season schedule on August 17, 2021. Coming off a 90-72 record and Wild Card playoff appearance in 2021, the Cardinals will look to build on that success with another competitive campaign in 2022.
St. Louis will open the 2022 season on the road against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on April 7th. The Cardinals and Pirates will play each other for the first time at Busch Stadium from April 11th-13th. Following the opening series against Pittsburgh, St. Louis will welcome the Colorado Rockies for three games from April 15th-17th.
The Cardinals will play their National League Central division rivals 19 times each in 2022. Along with their six games against Pittsburgh and Colorado to start the season, St. Louis has road series scheduled against the Chicago Cubs (April 25th-27th), Milwaukee Brewers (May 17th-19th), and Cincinnati Reds (June 7th-9th) in the early part of the season.
Interleague play sees the Cardinals facing American League Central teams for the majority of their non-division matchups. St. Louis will host the Kansas City Royals for three games from April 19th-21st and travel to Kansas City from May 9th-11th. From June 17th-19th, the Minnesota Twins come to Busch Stadium for three games. The Cardinals then head to Minnesota from August 2nd-4th.
Two weekend series against the Chicago White Sox are on tap, with the South Siders visiting St. Louis from May 13th-15th and the Cardinals going to Guaranteed Rate Field from July 8th-10th. Road trips to Cleveland to face the Guardians are scheduled for May 24th-26th and September 6th-8th. The Detroit Tigers come to St. Louis for the final interleague series from September 20th-22nd.
The Cardinals get an early look at the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves, hosting them for three games from April 29th-May 1st. St. Louis then makes the trip to Atlanta from July 18th-20th. Other notable National League opponents on the 2022 docket include a home weekend set against the Los Angeles Dodgers from June 3rd-5th and road dates with the San Diego Padres (August 12th-14th), New York Mets (September 9th-11th), and Philadelphia Phillies (September 23rd-25th) down the stretch.
The All-Star break falls on July 18th-19th this year, giving the Cardinals a few days off right before their series in Atlanta. St. Louis’ final homestand of 2022 takes place from September 27th-October 2nd against the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs. The regular season wraps up with a road trip to Pittsburgh for the final three games from October 3rd-5th.
As in past years, the Cardinals will play most of their home games on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Thursday games at Busch Stadium are less common, with only four scheduled in 2022 – April 21st vs. Kansas City, May 19th vs. Milwaukee, June 30th vs. Cincinnati, and September 15th vs. San Francisco.
St. Louis will look to stay in contention for another playoff berth throughout their challenging 2022 schedule. Key stretches include a 10-game West Coast road trip in June that sees them face the Dodgers, Padres and Giants. Late season series against other NL playoff hopefuls like the Braves, Phillies and Mets will also be crucial. Solid starting pitching and a potent lineup led by Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado and Dylan Carlson give the Cardinals a good chance to compete. Fans will be hoping for more October baseball at the end of another 162-game grind in 2022.
The St. Louis Cardinals 2022 schedule provides a mix of divisional matchups, interleague play and games against high-profile National League opponents. Home dates with teams like the Braves, Dodgers and Phillies along with challenging road trips out West and to other playoff contenders will test the Cards. As in recent years, consistency and clutch performances throughout the six-month season will be needed to achieve their goal of qualifying for the postseason.
