The rise of direct-to-consumer platforms like eBay made individual cards widely available and helped collectors at all levels take part. New technologies like autographs on cards and memorabilia card “relics” containing game-used pieces further drove interest. Mega stars of the contemporary era like Mike Trout, Clayton Kershaw, and Shohei Ohtani have produced some of the most valuable modern rookie cards ever made.
