Players included were Bobby Bonilla, Danny Tartabull, and Tom Henke among others. This provided base cards and additional statistics for some of the biggest first-year players as well as newly acquired veterans to spotlight emerging talent and renewed roster additions. Rookies featured included Jimmy Key, Kenny Lofton, and Jeff Bagwell amongst some of the most productive first-year players that would go on to have Hall of Fame careers. This subset helped add values to the promising rookies for collectors.
Beyond the new parallels introduced, Series 2 of course contained base cards for every player on the active rosters of all 26 Major League Baseball teams that were not featured in Series 1. This meant more exhaustive coverage of not just the star players but entire team rosters from top to bottom. Back-end relief pitchers, reserve infielders, and role players got their dues with photographic base cards in the set as well to satisfy completionists. The exhaustive coverage remained a hallmark of the original Donruss printing.
